Transparent plastics, PETG, polycarbonate PC and acrylic PMMA, can be used to make cost-effective and safe products for healthcare applications. Medical Device Regulation (MDR) ensures the safety and efficiency of medical devices. Our transparent plastics meet the requirements of MDR. Aikon high-performance plastics provide benefits for example to dental appliances, X-ray equipment, mammography and tomographic equipment, surgical lamps, and other hospital furniture.
High-performance plastics offer many advantages over other materials and one of their main advantages is lightness. Aikon® PC Hard and PMMA Hard are hard coated, high-quality materials for medical devices. They have good temperature resistance, but also high impact and corrosion resistance, which are required to withstand high wear and repeated sterilization cycles.
For specific healthcare applications regarding patient safety, plastics must offer biocompatibility. PETG is an excellent material for this purpose. It has a biocompatible version, which meet the specific requirements.
Aikon Full Solution is an excellent way to produce safe and medical approved devices for healthcare applications. Our durable, high-performance plastic materials and production methods ensure the quality of medical devices.
We value partnerships and want to be involved in your product development. By working with Aikon experts, you get the latest expertise and state of the art, one-stop-shop technology for your product development process. We manufacture prototypes as well as small series based on your needs. Our production capacity and high degree of automation also enable the cost-effective delivery of large production batches.
In healthcare, cleanliness and excellent hygiene are essential requirements, but they also set requirements for the materials used. Equipment parts and various surfaces are constantly cleaned and sterilized, so they require a high chemical resistance. Aikon® coating service and hard coated products, Aikon® PC Hard and PMMA Hard, provide solutions to this challenge.
As a full solution partner, we ensure the high-quality of customer products. We are responsible for the total quality of the manufactured products. The high quality is ensured through machine vision and systematic quality control tests.
Our Full Solution covers everything that is needed to produce safe and durable solutions from medical approved materials. Our experts help you in product development and selecting suitable production methods.
Medical devices are repeatedly sterilized, which requires high wear and chemical resistance from the plastic material. Physical properties of a plastic sheet can be improved with hard coating, which significantly improves the chemical resistance of the material.
Medical devices have high requirements, and they contain multiple markings, such as serial numberings. Screen printing is a fast and cost-efficient printing method to create markings for the medical devices. In this method large batches can be produced effectively.
We have received good feedback on the quality of thermoformed plastic products. The high quality is a result of thermoforming expertise. We have over three decades of experience in manufacturing thermoformed products and high thermoforming capacity.
PETG is an amorphous copolyester. The material is also available as a bio-compatible version, which makes it a very suitable material for medical devices. Ideal healthcare applications for PETG are mammography equipment and lightning applications. Transparent PETG sheets meet ISO 10993/USP Class VI biocompatibility requirements being suitable for skin contact applications. The material combines good impact strength with high clarity and excellent thermoforming properties.
Polycarbonate is particularly useful raw material when impact resistance and transparency are required. Hard coated PC has improved chemical resistance, which makes it an excellent material for medical devices. Polycarbonate is commonly used in covers, shields or windows of medical devices. Mammography devices, surgical lights or hospital furniture are suitable applications for polycarbonate, for example. We offer hard coated PC materials for healthcare applications.
Usually acrylic is used for a variety of applications to replace glass. When combining PMMA with hard coating, the scratch resistance becomes superior compared to other plastic materials.
Acrylics are used in medical devices, such as in shields, covers or windows of the devices. PMMA is used in components of X-ray equipment, dental equipment, and lightning applications. PMMA is suitable for thermoforming, and the machined surfaces can be polished. We offer hardcoated acrylic for medical devices.
